From June 2008, every home for sale must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) as part of a Home Information Pack (HIP), which details a home's energy efficiency. In order to issue a certificate it is necessary to conduct a survey of the property by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA). From October 2008 a Landlord Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is also required for rental property.

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) tell you the energy efficiency of a building on a scale of A-G. The most efficient buildings being in band A and the worst in band G. The Certificate tells you the impact of the building on the environment and it also includes recommendations to improve energy performance.
